Norfolk Catholic School has announced plans for a Centennial Celebration on Saturday, July 25 to mark the 100th anniversary of Catholic education as an apostolate of Sacred Heart Parish in Norfolk, Neb. “I am fortunate to have been part of the great culture here at Norfolk Catholic for more than 40 years,” said Jeff Bellar, Centennial Celebration committee member. “It’s the people who make Norfolk Catholic special, and I am looking forward to celebrating this milestone with our alumni and the community.” This celebration will replace the annual Alumni Reunion that is typically held at the same time. All alumni, past and present families, current and former staff members, stakeholders, and the community at large are invited. Centennial festivities begin with the Athletic Booster Club’s annual golf tournament at Eldorado Hills Golf Club. For more information or to register for the four-person scramble, please contact Tammy Kellogg at 402-841-3962. On campus, tours of Norfolk Catholic High School start at 3:30 p.m. Mass will be held in St. Mary Catholic Church at 5 p.m., with a burger bash in Burns Gym following Mass. Artifacts and memorabilia from the school’s history will be on display in the gym, including old yearbooks, pictures, uniforms, and more items. “It’s only one time that a school can celebrate a century,” said Nick Benes, development coordinator. “We recognize that there have been immense sacrifices made by countless individuals and families over the years just to sustain Catholic education here in Norfolk. We hope to put together a celebration that can be enjoyed by all who support our mission.” To commemorate the occasion, centennial apparel is now available for pre-order with pickup at the celebration. A limited supply of items may be available for purchase in-person at the event. Those planning to attend the burger bash after Mass are asked to click here to RSVP. A freewill donation is requested for anyone attending the burger bash. Proceeds raised that exceed the costs of putting on the event will go toward matching the Lavigne Foundation Challenge Grant to help fund capital improvements in the Norfolk Catholic Elementary School building. Following a record-setting Norfolk Area Big Give, the school has raised more than $90,000 of the $200,000 needed to match the grant by the end of the calendar year. “Norfolk Catholic has enjoyed a great deal of success in many different ways over the years, and we are ecstatic to give alumni the opportunity to reminisce about their time walking these halls,” Benes said. “This event is intended to be a celebration of all things Norfolk Catholic.” RSVP and/or Donate to the Centennial Celebration
